TRUST FUND DOLLARS AT WORK

The Variety Trust Fund exists as a separate entity, associated with, but not governed by Variety Tent 8. Originally established locally to encourage individual donations in memory of friends and family members – and in honor of deserving individuals and special occasions - the Trust Fund’s assets have grown through the years. To protect its asset base, only the interest may be allocated and only for the purpose of helping children.

Special needs are often met through the Trust Fund. In 2002, Marcus Presley was the recipient of a specially equipped motorized wheelchair, thus making it possible for him to attend school and lead a more normal life. Other 2001-02 allocations included assistance in the purchase of five Sunshine Coaches.

Past recipients, among others, have included Variety’s Poster Child, Vickie White, a motorized wheelchair, and young Matthew Ryan who was fitted with a prosthetic device for one arm that was left under-developed at birth. Out-of-towners receiving special grants were Nathaniel West of Edgerton, Missouri, who now plays on a soccer team thanks to his gift of a myo-electric arm; and Geoffrey Vaughn of Troy, Kansas, who at age six was also fitted with a myo-electric arm.
