Variety - is an international, volunteer-driven organization with 54 active chapters worldwide committed to bettering the quality of life for special needs children.

Funds raised by Variety The Children's Charity of Greater Kansas City - Tent #8 benefit children right here in Kansas City. Annual grants are awarded to select children's agencies while the Variety Children's Trust responds to individual requests from families of children needing special assistance. Help has included scholarships, wheelchairs, medical procedures and more.

February is Gold Heart Month

Wear your heart on your sleeve . . . or give it to someone you love. Proceeds from Variety Gold Hearts benefit special needs children throughout the Kansas City area. You may purchase a Gold Heart at Hy-Vee Stores or AMC theatres during the month of February.

   

An International Success Story

Since Gold Heart Day was launched in Great Britian in 1991, more than $45 million has been raised by Variety to help special needs children around the globe. This unique fundraising program centers around the sale of a charming Gold Heart Pin, a symbol of love, hope . . . and Variety, one of the oldest and largest children,s charities in the world. "wear your heart on your sleeve to show you care," is the campaign slogan and each year the design of the pin changes, reating a cherished and lasting tribute to children everywhere. The sale of the Gold Heart Pin is tied into valentine's day and provides a timely and compelling marketing opportunity.

So unique is the Gold Heart program that it has become Variety International's greatest fundraising endeavor worldwide. It involves our chapters in the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, Israel, France, Australia, New Zealand, Barbados and the Channel Islands. With more than 1,800 retailers and 1,100 movie theatre chains participating in the United States alone, we are poised to expand significantly over the next two years, expanding fundraising potential, increasing public awareness, and providing additional national sponsorship opportunities.

Ronald Pearson, chairman and chief executive officer of Hy-Vee stores in the Midwest calls this a "delightful, feel-good program . . . the type of event that makes a retailer feel good about raising money." As division vice president for Paramount Pictures, Clark Woods believes "this is a win-win for any theatre or retailer who sells Gold Heart Pins; whe have a unique opportunity here to raise funds for the children of our communities while our sales partners send a strong message to the public that they are part of the solution."
