Catie Cares: Host A Dinner

If you believe every kid should be active, be social, and belong – please donate today

Some of the most popular fundraisers involve food, so why not host a pizza night or spaghetti dinner. Both are super easy to pull off and can be a lot of fun for your group.

For a pizza night, you can decide to organize it a few different ways. One strategy is to contact a local pizzeria or restaurant and ask if they’ll donate pizzas for your event. You can then sell them by the pie or by the slice. Since pizza goes great with movies, show a flick and turn it into a social gathering. Another way to throw the event is host it at a community center or other facility with a large oven, and have your guests make their own pizza. You can purchase pre-packaged crusts, cut veggies, canned toppings, and cheese in bulk and let you guests put together their own unique creations. You can then charge by the pie, or a flat entry fee to the event.

Just as easy as a pizza night, spaghetti dinners are great because they are easy to implement and can be run on large to small scale. You’ll need to acquire a banquet hall, cafeteria, gymnasium or other facility with a kitchen close by. If you don’t have access to one, contact your local community center, school or church to see if they’d be willing to donate their facility for your event.

Spaghetti DinnerOnce you have the location, ask local grocery stores, bakeries, and food suppliers for food donations. You’ll need spaghetti, prepared or homemade tomato sauce, meatballs, bread, drinks desserts, plates, cups and plasticware. Also, you’ll need tables, chairs and a way to set the food up so it’s a buffet style. Make sure to promote your event and have tickets for pre-sale and at the door. For decorations, maybe use the Variety heart and have placemats that speak to our mission and what we do around the Kansas City area.

Since the Catie Cares program is all about building awareness, we want to share with others how great our ambassadors are! Send us your photos to varietykc@gmail.com.
