Help children with special needs feel included

Variety exists to help children with developmental disabilities feel and truly be included in the Kansas City community. In addition to providing special needs children with mobility and communication devices, we create opportunities for these children to interact with one another and other Kansas Citians.

  •  Variety Playground and adaptive baseball fields – Thanks to your generous donations, Variety was able to raise $450,000 and help create three spaces where physically-able and disabled children can play together. In 2013, we partnered with MLB Funds, Independence Parks & Recreation and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation to build two adaptive baseball fields (one in Independence and one in Olathe) and a playground (in Independence) for children two to four years old. Thank you to our wonderful sponsors: Greater Kansas City Auto Dealers Association!

  • Variety-sponsored programs – Variety also sponsors an adaptive soccer team called Blue Valley TEAMsoccer as well as soap box derby races and airplane rides for children with developmental disabilities.

If you and your child would like to participate in any upcoming events, please sign up for our email updates. If you’d like to get involved in Variety-sponsored program, please contact Deb Wiebrecht. For more information about inclusive opportunities with other organizations, check out these other helpful organizations.
