Run For Kids Who Can’t: Ricky

#RunRoyal

Variety Children’s Charity is this year’s benefactor for the Royals Charities’ 5k, and we’re ecstatic about it. The annual 5k takes place at Kauffman Stadium, going around The K and Arrowhead complexes, and ending around the track down on the baseball field. This year our focus is teamwork, and the fact that success is so much sweeter when you have a group to share it with.

About Variety

As you know, Variety is a volunteer-driven organization committed to improving the lives of children with special needs. Variety provides these children with developmental disabilities the adaptive equipment and opportunities needed for activity and inclusion within our community. If you are passionate about helping children with special needs and bettering their lives, this is the race for you. So round up a team and head out to Kauffman Stadium on August 2nd to run in the Royals Charities 5k. We’re excited about the opportunity to #RunRoyal, for kids who can’t.

Join a Team

Whether you have your own team or just want to run solo, we want you to come walk or run for kids who can’t. We’re encouraging everyone to form teams of 10 and come out and run in support of this great cause. Don’t have a team, but still want to share your successes? You can also join Team Variety, who are running for “Spotlight Kids.”

Meet Ricky

ricky

Today’s spotlight kid is Ricky. He is 18 years old and has Cerebral Palsy and Scoliosis, which affects Ricky’s muscle tone, movement, and posture, and Scoliosis is common in those who have Cerebal Palsy. Ricky has been a Variety child since he was just two years old.  Variety has helped his family purchase every wheelchair he has owned, which would not have been possible with out fundraising and our amazing volunteers. Through the Royals Charities 5k, you can help Ricky and other kids get the equipment they need for their specific conditions. Ricky was the inspiration for the Adaptive Baseball Fields so that kids of all shapes and sizes can participate in “America’s Favorite Pastime.” Ricky is headed off to The University of Kansas this fall. We know he will do great things and inspire all those around him.
