Meet the Kids: Brooke

20150618_1448231Brooke has Down Syndrome, Developmental and Cognitive Delays – yet that isn’t enough to slow her down!   Brooke actively participates in school, therapy and a happy family life.   iPad programs and therapy have enhanced Brooke’s communication skills a great deal, but that therapy is limited to school. Her parents are dedicated to her education and development and strive to provide what they can, but this expense is beyond their means and there is no living extended family around to possibly assist.  So Variety embraced Brooke as part of its family!  She has the communication devices she needs at home and a large family of Variety families, supporters and partners in our increasingly inclusive community. You can help kids like Brooke by donating to Variety at www.varietykc.org!

Meet the Kids: Lindsey

20150612_122513Lindsey is a happy toddler with a neurological condition resulting in lack of communication. Her father describes daily life as a “guessing game” as to what Lindsey wants. An iPad and apps will allow Lindsey to communicate her needs and wants. Her father says it would be the gift of a “voice” for Lindsey. Variety donors have spoken! And Lindsey has her “voice” — and her family finally has a way to communicate with her. Can you imagine the relief after all that frustration? If you can imagine it, please help another child like Lindsey by supporting Variety KC. All donations stay right here in our own community.

Meet the Kids: Kennedy

kennedy fullerTwo-year-old Kennedy is a force to be reckoned with!  With her diagnosis of Prader-Willi syndrome, Kennedy’s muscle tone is very low and she is just beginning to crawl and get around. She has to put her head on the floor to crawl because she can’t move her limbs and support her head and neck at the same time.  There is help for this.  It is called  a KidWalk and it will give her the support and improved posture she will need to walk. And she wants to walk!  She’s got two siblings at home and a buddy next door, she has the desire to join them outside playing, now she just needs the strength and confidence. By supporting Variety, you aren’t just helping to supply little girls like Kennedy with a KidWalk – you are giving the gift of strength, confidence, and inclusion.  Find out more at www.varietykc.org.
