Meet the Kids – Preston

If you believe every kid should be active, be social, and belong – please donate today

“Preston is a twin 7 year-old-boy who loves Sonic and Mario Brothers. He is the silliest and most artistic child I’ve ever known. When we are out running errands, Preston loves to tell the people that we see in the grocery store his newest jokes. He surprises me every day with the interesting and creative structures that he makes from cut up cardboard pieces.

Preston is also autistic, ADHD, and speech and language delayed. He struggles with regulating his emotions, communicating, aggressive and dangerous behavior, and he has difficulty staying focused on his academic work. There are many tools and equipment that can help Preston with these struggles. Unfortunately, as a single parent of two special needs children, financial barriers prevent me from giving Preston much more than basic necessities. With the help of Variety KC, Preston can get the assistance that he needs to be happy and successful at home and in school. A wobble seat and fidget toys will help Preston focus while he learns. A balance board will provide sensory input that Preston needs to regulate his emotions. An exercise ball will help Preston to burn off energy during academic breaks. This equipment would help Preston to thrive.”

It really humbles us to read the letters from our Variety KC Parents. It’s so difficult to reach out for help, and they do it for their children – children that they love tremendously and take such pride in. Preston’s mom isn’t asking for much, but with two children with disabilities even the simple things can be budget busters. That’s exactly what Variety KC is here for!  To help KC families and children with special needs to obtain the tools they need to Be Social, Be Active, Belong – and yes, to thrive!   You can help by donating at varietykc.org/donate

Thank you for making life just that much easier and that much happier for families like this one!
