Meet the Kids – Charlie!

If you believe every kid should be active, be social, and belong – please donate today

Charlie is currently a 3 year old with learning delays in speech/communication and fine motor skills. When Charlie was 6 months old, he contracted pneumonia and a staph infection that turned septic. He was put on life support for one week with aggressive antibiotics. He underwent three spinal surgeries starting at the base of his spine to remove infected tissue. At the top of his spine, the neurologist discovered the beginning of meningitis which was causing hydrocephalus.  Charlie underwent three additional surgeries on his brain to insert a stent and a pressure release hole. He was hospitalized for two months. During that time he was on a feeding tube. When Charlie was released from the hospital, he was 8 months old with the mobility of a three month old. Due to this history, Charlie has been left with delays.

Charlie has overcome so many obstacles in his little life. He has remained positive and inspires those around him. Although he has overcome many physical obstacles, he is still working to communicate effectively with those around him. A gift of an ipad to communicate would eliminate the frustration for him and his family. He is not able to communicate like those his age. This can be frustrating for him as well as us, his communication partners. We have been blessed with life saving medical miracles and would like to continue to bless Charlie by giving him the gift of communication.
