Finnegan is a go-getter. His desire to always be moving and playing is tiring for us, but we also realize that his motivation and fun-loving personality is going to serve him well in the future. Currently, Finn communications with sign language, gestures, a few words, and a whole lot of attitude! He is an extremely funny kid, and gets great satisfaction out of making those around him laugh. He is able to walk independently, but also loves holding mom and dad’s hands for help. He enjoys being read to, especially the Dear Zoo book and The Wonky Donkey, if you can get him to sit still for any length of time. He has been a great blessing to our family and has taught us, our families, and our friends that you cannot define anyone with a diagnosis.

When we found out we were pregnant with our first child we decided we wanted his gender to be a surprise at birth. Little did we know, he had another surprise in store. Receiving his diagnosis of Down Syndrome was difficult over the past two years. It became apparent very early on that Finnegan will not allow himself to be limited by a diagnosis and as for what he will achieve? Well, his book is still being written.
The motivation and determination that Finn displays is second to none. When around other children, it is apparent that Finn is observing and learning every moment. Unfortunately, Finn’s diagnosis does come with certain realities. He is smaller, less mobile, and has more difficulty communicating than others his age. There are five other young children that live near us. Many of them are learning to ride bikes or trikes and enjoy a sense of freedom that we do not feel comfortable giving him yet. A tool like the AmTryke would allow him to ride with his friends while being pushed and grow with him to a point he could propel himself without assistance and with the advantage of not having to relearn an entirely different style of bike. We want Finnegan to live to his highest potential, early intervention, and adaptive equipment can help him achieve that.
