Gabriel has Developmental delays, Mixed Expressive/Receptive Language Disorder, Dysphagia, Gastronomy Tube, Hypospadias, Vesicoureteral Reflux, Generalized Muscle Weakness, Atrial Septal Defect.
Gabe struggles to express his needs and wants. He is able to vocalize some basic sounds, but combining sounds into words requires motor planning, which is a struggle. He gets frustrated and angry when his wants and needs and requests aren’t able to be communicated. He is a happy, resilient fighter who never gives up and never loses his smile. He loves to give hugs and play with water in the sink. He has used an iPad during therapy and the therapists have allowed our family to borrow the iPad so Gabe can communicate with us. This is allowing him to have a voice and is alleviating the frustration that he feels when he isn’t able to verbally tell us what he wants.
