Meet Wyatt

Wyatt was born full term, after a healthy pregnancy in November of 2017. During our hospital stay, it was discovered that he had congenital heart defects including a Ventral Septal Defect, Atrial Septal Defect, Patent Foramen Ovale, pulmonary stenosis and a double chambered right ventricle which required open heart surgery in June of 2018 at 7 months of age. Prior to surgery, Wyatt’s parents and primary care physician noticed Wyatt to have decreased muscle tone and delayed milestones. At the time, the delays were believed to attributed to his heart defects. When these delays continued following recovery from surgery, Wyatt’s physician suggested genetic testing and therapy services. In January of 2019 Wyatt began receiving services from the LeeAnn Britan Infant Development Center and Infant Toddler Services of Johnson County. In May of 2020 Wyatt was diagnosed with Kleefstra Syndrome.

Wyatt is a delightful little boy. He loves bubbles, books, bath time, meal time, singing and finding new ways to spin any object he can get his hands on. He is doted on by three older sisters. Wyatt took his first steps in May of this year, a much anticipated and celebrated milestone. He primarily communicates through sign language and picture card exchange and is beginning to use more specific vocalizations. We are looking forward to his first words. Wyatt has changed our family for the better by helping us find joy in the little things and gratitude even in the midst of challenges.
