Marc Harrell

Chief Inclusion Officer/Executive Director

Prior to joining the staff of Variety KC earlier this year, Marc worked alongside the charity since 2007, and served on the Board of Directors for over 8 years, with the last 3 years as President. Marc has had the pleasure of watching the #InclusionRevolution take flight in Kansas City and has been heavily involved in many of Varity KC’s expansion throughout Kansas City, including playground openings, sports complex openings, special projects throughout the KC, as well as several accessible areas inside the new terminal at KCI. Marc is also the Market Manager/General Manager for Steel City Media, the company who owns Q104, KC102.1, 94.1 KFKF and Mix 93.3, and celebrated his 20th anniversary this year with Steel City. Steel City Media is a private media company, based out of Pittsburgh, PA. This multimedia company has market leading media outlets throughout Kansas City, and for the past 30 years, has maintained a local focus and commitment to the community it serves. Marc is a University of Kansas graduate and a fanatical Kansas basketball supporter. When Marc is not focusing on work, he is traveling around the world, as travel is one of his biggest passions. Marc lives with his spouse, Ken, and his Border Collie rescues, Tanner and Isabella.

Abby Martin

Chief Development Officer

Abby Martin serves as the Chief Development Officer for Variety KC. Prior to joining the Variety KC team in June 2023, Abby worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) serving both pediatric and adult populations who have a wide range of diagnoses and disabilities. Abby has had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings – elementary and middle schools, an inpatient rehabilitation hospital, and a pediatric outpatient private practice. Since starting her career as an SLP, Abby quickly found a strong passion for supporting children using Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and began specializing in this area. She notes, “There is nothing like the joy of getting to help a child find their VOICE!”

Abby’s background as a pediatric SLP has taught her the importance of creating connections to nurture development, the significance of learning through play-based interactions and having fun together, and supporting and celebrating a child’s individual differences. Abby loves working with people, building relationships with patients/clients and their families, and getting to play a part in their journey. She feels her background has instilled the importance of advocating for those with individual differences and brought into focus the remarkable need for change to support the needs of children with disabilities and their families within our community.

Abby’s journey with Variety KC actually started in 2016 while in graduate school as she served as an assistant for Variety KC’s previous Executive Director, Deborah Wiebrecht. Once she graduated and began her career as an SLP, she continued to volunteer at Variety KC events and would assist families in the grant application process in hopes to receive a life-changing communication device from Variety KC.

Abby is a proud born and raised Kansas Citian and feels honored to be a part of Variety KC’s #InclusionRevolution to continue to make Kansas City the most inclusive city in the world for individuals of ALL abilities! Abby lives with her husband (Matthew), handsome goldendoodle (Bogey), and is expecting their first child in February 2024! Baby Martin cannot wait to be a part of the Variety KC Family!

Ali O’Grady

Community Liaison Officer

She is responsible for coordinating community events, communicating with families regarding Variety KC grants, and keeping the Variety KC family at the forefront of all things inclusive. Prior to becoming a part of Variety KC’s team, she spent ten years as an elementary educator in both Kansas and Missouri which is where her passion for inclusion and accessibility began. Ali was first introduced to Variety KC in 2020 when her son with autism was generously gifted an adaptive tricycle. This gift marked a special moment in their family and sparked a desire to advocate and promote inclusivity within the Kansas City Community. In addition to spending time with her husband, Jordan, and two kids, Blakely and Henry, Ali enjoys the challenge of creating the most inclusive city in the world, right here in Kansas City. Her commitment to breaking barriers and cultivating a community of acceptance and inclusion is what makes her a great asset to Variety KC’s team.

JoAnna Long

Project Manager

Prior to joining the Variety team, JoAnna was an avid volunteer for multiple charities and organizations throughout the Kansas City area including Variety KC for the past 2 1/2 years. She brings with her many years of leadership & administrative experience. JoAnna has served her previous communities as a paraprofessional working with kids that have special abilities and also served on a charity board that was in charge of the development of inclusive playgrounds in Minnesota. JoAnna has always had a passion for serving others and helping people succeed. With Variety KC’s mission of helping all kids be active, be social and belong, JoAnna was inspired to become a part of this #Inclusion Revolution, alongside her husband, Luke, who also serves as a board member for Variety. When she is not out volunteering in the community, JoAnna enjoys reading, plants, traveling and spending time with family.
