Meet MAX! Recently Variety KC received this request from Max’s mom.

“Max is active in the community. We have been faithfully involved with the Down Syndrome Guild for eight years, and make full use of services that benefit our son. Max attended the weekly STARS program for young adults, and now attends the adult program, Club 3-2-1. Our family is committed to a full year of the Pathways therapy program, which includes parents receiving continual coaching on how to facilitate our son’s communication, social inclusion, independence, and job readiness. We have learned that a communication device provides him with a more accessible means of communication, since his verbal communication is so limited. It helps him ask for what he wants and needs, and even communicates and shows his sense of humor. We believe that a communication device is great for time at home with family, but will be even more important in a job situation in the community, and when interacting in the community.”

Max is mild-mannered, but has a quirky sense of humor. He is extremely charismatic and he especially communicates with his facial expressions. Max’s laughter is full of joy and everyone smiles when they hear it. He is very affectionate with his family. His interests include participating in Special Olympics, coming to DSG activities, spending time on his computer watching YouTube, and being out in the community and especially going to sporting events with our family.

Thanks to all of our Variety KC supporters- Max will be able to receive his communication device! A guy as busy as Max needs to make himself understood!  Help all kids get a voice – donate today toward communication devices at VarietyKc.org/donate/
