From Andy Tretiak:

For me, it was the opening of the new adaptive baseball field in Olathe. I’ve always loved baseball, and it’s amazing that Variety and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation teamed up to build this special park so all kids can play!

Written by Karen Abramowitz:

Several years ago, I made it a personal goal to become part of a local organization. I wanted to give back to the community, but in a meaningful way. I didn’t want to just make phone calls or stuff envelopes, I wanted to be a part of something bigger. While scrolling through Facebook one afternoon, I saw a friend’s photos from a charity event. As I clicked through each one, I saw smiling faces and people on a mission. I started googling that charity and found an email address for Young Variety of Greater Kansas City. I sent an email, asking how I could get involved and help. That email led to a meeting that led to an invitation to join the advisory board. And three years later, I was asked to serve as the Vice President of Young Variety. Sometimes, things have a way of working themselves out! I’m so proud and honored to be a part of such a committed and caring organization!

From Amy Milroy:

Variety has supported children and families at the Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center for many years! We are so grateful for their support of our program as well as individual children. I’m not sure I can pick just one story! The smile on Bryce’s face, or Hunter’s face are recent memories. Certainly, the most recent story is that of Ryan and Variety helping complete a nearly two year process for a vehicle modification. I’ll also never forget a check presentation on Halloween when all the babies were in their costumes. Thanks Variety! You make great things happen!

From Joy Sedlacek:

I first learned about Variety in 2008 when Nancy Pagel asked the Royals to listen to what Variety was about. We had a meeting with Deborah Wiebrecht and immediately fell in love with the mission of Variety. What this charity is able to do is help those families who have fallen through the cracks be mobile, be social, feel included and act and move like a kid should. (more…)
