Meet the Kids – Enrique!

If you believe every kid should be active, be social, and belong – please donate today

Enrique is an 18-month-old toddler who was diagnosed at just four months with a brain tumor and hydrocephalus. He is such a little fighter. He’s been in and out of the hospital getting chemo every other week and PT and OT once a week. This has been very hard on the family and the struggle will continue, but his therapist has recommended an iPad to help Enrique in a couple important ways.

Unfortunately where the brain tumor is located, it can not be completely taken out and this impact him in several ways. His vision is compromised. He babbles, but does not speak yet. He can’t sit alone or crawl.  His therapist and mother believe that having an iPad would be beneficial from what they are seeing when he interacts with the iPad his therapist travels with. He shows different reactions to the cause and effect apps that are provided on the iPad and this helps his vision. Having access to his own device would mean his parents could work with him throughout the week and not just the one time Therapist visit.  His brother also shows interest in it when Enrique has therapy and this helps the brothers engage and bond.

Variety friends know that early intervention is key and will make it possible for Enrique to get his device, but there are so many more kids in need. If you can help, please donate at www.varietykc.org/donate.  Thank you!
